On Jan 21, 2007, the Government
of Canada launched a grant initiative to encourage homeowners,
particularly those who have older homes that are in need of energy
efficiency upgrades, to retrofit their homes to make them more
energy efficient and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that
contribute to climate change. Only homeowners who have had the
EnerGuide for Houses evaluation or ecoEnergy retrofit
evaluation and have followed up on recommendations will be
eligible for a grant. The house must achieve a minimum energy
performance improvement.
Evaluation: The Pre Retrofit evaluation
cost is now only $150.00 plus GST. This is because the
Provincial Government will subsidize $150 off the $300 test, making
it a $150 test plus GST. They have also said that if you take any
or all of the recommendations and upgrade your home, they will also
reimburse you the original $150 cost making the first test
essentially free. This evaluation must be performed prior to any
energy upgrades being performed on your house. Evaluations take
between 45 minutes to 11/2 hours to complete and provides you with
independant, unbiased advice from an energy expert in your home.
Your report containing your ecoEnergy rating and
recommendations is mailed to you within a couple of weeks of your
assessment along with energy-efficiency and renovation
publications. Payment is due in full upon completion of the
evaluation visit.
Follow-up
evaluation: Once upgrades are
completed, the Pre Retrofitevaluation
must be done in order to measure the improvement in your homes
energy rating and in order to calculate your energy grant. At
this time we will also fill out the necessary forms and submit them
to Natural Resources Canada, on your behalf. We provide this
service for only $150.00 plus GST. This evaluation must be carried
out within 18 months of the Pre Retrofit evaluation.
Please note the changes to the cost of the
